Back
to School/Stay in School is an NAACP Education initiatives that was started in
1984 to work with school district to reduce truancy, drop out rates, and to
provide African American Youth with an equal education. The National Board approved the design and
implementation through local NAACP Education Committees. BACK to School/Stay in School (BTS/SIS) is
designed to assist students K-12 with academic and social supports required to
complete high school. The program aims
to improve student achievement by reducing absenteeism, drop out rate, cultural
awareness, and increase parent involvement.
There are (4) main components (1) the Annual Back to School Rallies to
encourage communities to join their branch in motivating students to be
successful, (2) academic enrichment programs that provide extra
academic support, (3) parent/Family workshops to increase parents involvement
and empower them to navigate the educational system for their student success.
